Mater Dei Hospital

The Mater Dei is a Christian Hospital in Bulawayo which is owned by the Board of Trustees, which includes members of the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood. This is a Catholic group of sisters who minister and work in many different countries.

The staff at the Mater Dei endeavour to assist each patient attain full health through a holistic approach to medical care. Through teaching and training the hospital strives to maintain high standards and to offer affordable health care in a compassionate manner, based on Christian values. The inherent dignity of each person is respected, irrespective of their race, culture and belief. Each person working in Mater Dei is an integral part of the Team serving the local community. The specific task of each one is vitally important, in ensuring the total welfare of every patient in our care.

The hospital has a bed capacity of 169 but approximately only 60 are in use at present due to low occupancy.

The hospital is desperately short of funds and there is an ongoing requirement for equipment and consumables. Much of the equipment is extremely old and / or in disrepair. The hospitals requirements are too numerous to list here. Please click on the link on this page.
